Now, before I even knew who Mr. Black was I came on You Tube wanting to just talk about film. I had no intention of reviewing movies. So my first few videos were horrendous, Boring, confusing, biased messes and just a waste of everyone's time in my opinion. I found Mr. Black in a related videos tab and I was instantly inspired. Watching his videos helped me see what I was doing wrong, so very very wrong.
Mr. Black had a way to celebrate film. Even while reviewing a terrible movie that wasn't worth anybody's time he had a way of switching it around, guiding you to a better film somewhere out there. It was subtle and done effortlessly, the sign of a true film buff. As time passed You Tube made it more and more difficult to make videos for the public. Despite our videos being perfectly acceptable under fair use, You Tube told us they were not. You tube catered to the Blunty's and the DeFranco's who had no problem showing their stupid faces while asking people for money.er..donations I should say but us, the faceless entities who wanted to just spread a message, we were constantly denied.
I don't blame Mr. Black for leaving You Tube. He would spend countless hours on making a video and see absolutely no return whatsoever. A wise man once said, "never do something you're good at for free" The Joker was on to something. Black left You Tube with some of the best, most informative and inspiring videos that you will find on the internet, with hundreds of thousands of views and in the end, it's Ijustine who gets money to go on vacation cuz she shaked her ass in an Apple store. The world can be a stupid place indeed.
Over the years Black never told me his name, never showed me his face, nothing. Despite spending sometimes hours lost in conversation, talking about everything from apathy, world events, movies, life. That was his choice and I am fine with that. One of the things we always agreed on is that the message was always more important. I like to think Black is ok, out there, living life and living it happily. I considered him a friend and I hope he's ok. My goal this year was to find him and get him to come out, at least for an interview. I just hope he's ok.
Damn, i never saw any of his reviews. :( Gonna check it out.
ReplyDeleteHis last tweet was July 15th. Strange. Hope he's OK.
Exellent blog. i feel the same way for Mr. Black. He was true voice to the people. He didn't simply just make reviews, on his channel therealweeklynews he tackled some serious issues that were quite important. He also gave away plenty of free dvd's and at one point some video games. In no disrepect Fury, but Mr Black was always my favorite reviewer and I truly miss him
ReplyDeleteI take no offense to that at all rip, no disrespect at all. The guy was great at what he did.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I can't say that Mr. Black is one of my favorite movie reviewers on YouTube. But he is a very good reviewer nevertheless.
